How to Apply for Indian CDC: A Step-by-Step Guide for SSNT Students

Applying for an Indian Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) is a crucial step for anyone pursuing a career in the merchant navy. This guide walks you through everything you need to know—from eligibility to documentation to the online application process.

What is an Indian CDC?

The Indian Continuous Discharge Certificate (CDC) is an official identity document issued by the Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India. It confirms your qualification and eligibility to work onboard ships and is internationally recognized.

Without a CDC, you cannot take up employment in the shipping industry.

Eligibility Criteria

To apply for the Indian CDC, the candidate must:

  • Be a citizen of India
  • Be at least 18 years old
  • Have passed 10th standard from a recognized board
  • Hold a valid Medical Fitness Certificate (Annexure IV & V) from a DG Shipping-approved doctor
  • Have completed Basic STCW Safety Training and Security Training for Seafarers with Designated Security Duties (STSDSD) or Ship Security Officer (SSO)

📌 Note: SSNT students receive full support to complete these courses during their training.

Required Documents

Make sure to keep the following documents ready in digital format:

  1. Passport-size photo (3.5 cm x 3.5 cm, white background, JPG)
  2. Scanned signature (1.5 cm x 3.5 cm, black ink, JPG)
  3. Scanned copy of original passport (PDF)
  4. 10th pass certificate or mark sheet (PDF)
  5. DG-approved medical certificate (Annexure IV & V, PDF)
  6. Permanent address proof (PDF) – any one of:
    • Aadhaar Card
    • Passport
    • Voter ID
    • Driving License

Step-by-Step CDC Application Process

Step 1: Visit the DG Shipping Portal

Go to https://www.dgshipping.gov.in → Click on E-Governance

Step 2: Login

Use your INDoS number as the User ID and enter your e-Governance password.

Step 3: Access the CDC Application Section

Navigate to:
CDC Management & COC as Cook → Submit Application → CDC Application

Step 4: Fill Your Details

Provide personal info, address, passport number, educational qualification, and next of kin details.

Step 5: Upload Your Documents

Upload the scanned copies of your required documents as listed above.

Step 6: Payment

Pay the application fee of ₹700 online via the portal.

Step 7: Final Declaration & Submission

Agree to the terms, generate your application number, and submit the application form.
